Posted - 15 Apr 2002 : 17:12:00 First off:
I've been busy with work (yes, someone was dumb enough to give me a job).
I wanna take this time to talk about 0ld sk00l games.
Commodore 64 :
I had some great great games for the C64. One of those was CaveMan Olympics, Yie Ar Kungfu, some other Kung Fu games and one of my all time favorites : Defender Of The Crown. This introduced me to games at home. I had played games before at friend's houses. But now I could play games at home W00t .
Caveman Olympics still is one of the weirdest games I ever played. It included Mate Toss (You had to throw a women as far as possible), Saber Tooth Tiger Race (the slowest person got eaten by the tiger), and the ultra funny deathmatch on a cliff. Before you could do the deathmatch you had to do the "Intimidation Fase" that meant wiggling your joystick and pushing the two ( !!! ) buttons as fast as possible. This made you scream and shout at the other caveman in the hope of getting good start positions to start bashing him. The object off course was to kick his Ancient @ss of the cliff .
The other (as of yet) unnamed Kung Fu game was the first multiplayer game I played. It had three Kung Fu guys in one field with a lake on the background and some 3D effects because of some Asian Portal thingie. You only had a button for kick and one for punch, resulting in a stunning 6 possible combinations ( w0w ): crouching punch, crouching kick, standing punch, standing kick, jumping punch, jumping kick. Mad fun .
Defender Of The Crown was the first game that introduced me to Strategy Games. You had to conquer the whole of England in the Middle Ages. I can't remember exactly but I think you conquered lands by having a catapult shooting at castles. You had to adjust the angle of the catapult yourself. I also remeber something about Jousting. Also a great classic game !!!
About that time I went on camp with my school and there was these classical arcade games called 1942 and Track & Field. These games have also been on my favorites list for a long looooooong time. I thought I would never play those games again but I found them (or better yet, they found me). I had to work on a few Dutchy National Holidays (Good Friday & Easter). Some colleague gave me MAME, that's a C64, NES, SNES, Sega emulator with 478 games ! In this emulator there were my games ! 1942, 1943 (the sequel), Track & Field, Yie Ar kung Fu, Kung Fu (the NES version) and all the games I have played over the years that I thought I would never see again (come to poppa !!!! *sniff, sniff*).
Sierra Adventures :
I remember one of my first games I ever saw. It was Leisure Suit Larry (I think it was 2 but I'm not sure). Larry was a weird adventure where you had to beat up people, get women drunk and buy condoms before you could f0ck them. (Yes, that's why I'm such a pervert right now). The way the game was made impressed me as I had never seen a game like that before. A game where you actually had to read what the characters said and had to solve things by thinking instead of shooting, kicking etc. This opened a whole new world for me. I saw Indiana Jones and the Fate Of Atlantis at a friends house and we sat down and both sat their cracking our brains trying to solve the puzzles. Unfortunatly the guy finished the game and deleted it so I couldn't play it myself. He also had Police Quest (I think it was 2). This made me love the genre of games. For the interested people I have the whole game AGAIN ! . It's only 6.24 MB large so come get it :)
This was the story so far. From the time I had my C64 I only had consoles (Nintendo 8 bit) up untill I started playing OP4 with your clanleaders . Those were the days ! I will talk about my console days in part 2.
Let's continue on with the C64 / PC story.
I had another friend and he introduced me to Civilization. Still one of the best series of Strategy games EVER ! I think in all I played Civ for about 6 years or something. Even when Civ 2 came out I still held on to my old favorite.
That's about the time I first saw Wing Commander. I didn't like that game much. It seemed very simple to me. Maybe that's why I still don't like Flying Games.
Than after Civilization I finally got a good computer and internet (AMD 600, Matrox G400, 256 MB Ram, 20 Gig HD, you know, my old computer where I kicked all your 4sses on ). Peppi introduced me to OP4. He said he had played this this kick4ss game online with rocket launchers, shotguns, submachine guns, etc. We started playing on the Opasia servers which at that time still had 4 servers AND ZERO LAG ! There we met 6ie, Fermo and Mohammed. Fermo, Mo and 6ie started thinking about becoming a clan and not much later they were ! We thought that was wierd because we never had seen very many clanplayers on those servers before except for Kermit and FUCT. After two months we decide to create our own clan because we saw how much more fun having a clan could be.
Well you know about the (DRUNK) time I prolly told that story too many times. That was at the time where we recruited Lecaf and almost MightyFlup too. Franky (a 14 year old German kid) was also very important to us at the start. He recruited like a f0cking madman and at one time I think we were much bigger than +35. (I didn't say better, only bigger ). The better part came later, when we started a new game called Counter Strike. I think one of the reasons +35 started playing it is because (among other reasons) we invited them to play it :)
The rest is history. Playing from Beta 6.4 with the ULTRA GREAT map cs_docks (PLEASE PUT THAT BACK IN THE MAPCYCLE !!). I saw [+35] grow from a ultra n00b clan to a very well organized clan (and very well playing) with very good leaders and the spirit to stand the test of times. I can't tell you guys enough how much ALL OF YOU have improved !!!!! I remember the days where I could easily own all of you (because I played the game more). I remember BOSS playing so bad we would probably have banned him today . I remember Mohammed going: "Hummm, I don't think I like this game, can't we play some more OP4". Thanks for coming to play CS with us man :) This worked out great >:0)
For some great old skool CS versions : http://www.counter-strike.de/history/download/download.htm
This incudes the FAMOUS 5.2 with the owning PN90 and the M4 with scope !!!!! I'm trying to get the server files for 5.2 so I can run a server on it
Other PC games I think are worth mentioning because they changed games. They made important steps in graphics, gameplay, ideas etc, etc.
One of those game would be Civilization the mother of all God Playing Games / Strategy games combined. Quake (although I don't like Quake much), HalfLife (duh), Counter-Strike, Max Payne (Bullet Time !!!!!), Operation Flashpoint (first with massive maps with real nice graphics and real weapons). Further more the unnamed Kung Fu game and off course Sierra !!! They f0cking r0ck, they gave us sooo many k00l games you can't even imagine.
I would like to close this seemingly endless ranting about old sk00l games now because your eyes are probably getting tired right now.
To conclude today's f0cking long rant I would like to give you old sk00lers that want to get that feeling back to the following links :
www.the-underdogs.org A lot of old games, abandonware free for download !!
http://www.counter-strike.de/history/download/download.htm All the old Counter Strike Files !!!
http://www.langames.net/downloads.php This is the site that has the Old Counter Strike versions PLUS THE 5.2 SERVER CONFIGS !!!!
drunkgravefiller@chello.nl For MAME (also look on google for this). MAME is an emulator for C64, Nintendo and Sega games. I have a version with 478 games. Also for Indiana jones and The Fate Of Atlantis.
I maybe [*DRUNK*] but I'm not a f00l
